New Mexico Health Care Workers' Compensation Group

A self-insured workers' compensation plan is one which the employer assumes the financial risk for the providing Workers' Compensation benefits to its employees. Employers pay the cost of each claim "out of pocket" as they are incurred instead of paying a fixed premium to an insurance carrier or to a state-sponsored Workers' Compensation fund.

All propective applicants must be nursing facilties, intermediate care facilities, assisted living facilites, or be similar in nature.

Applicants will need to provide the following information in their application:

• Three years of loss runs
• Payroll audit
• Indemnity agreement
• Payroll questionnaire.

The New Mexico Health Care Workers' Compensation Group strives to provide competitive and stable premiums by working with individual members to improve safety in their facilities.

The Hospital Services Corporation (HSC) serves as the third-party administrator for the self-insured group. HSC handles all member claims, coordinates excess insurance coverage, and provides on-site safety audits and tools to reduce slips, trips and falls.

The New Mexico Health Care Workers' Compensation Group does pay out surplus premium dividends to members that have successfully controlled their losses.

Since the self-insured fund was created in 1991, we have paid out over $6.8 million in surplus premium dividends to members.
