AHCA Quality Initiative

NMHCA members have actively participated in the AHCA Quality Initiative, a national, multi-year effort to continue to improve quality of care in America’s long-term and post-acute care centers. Since the launch of the Initiative in 2012, members have been challenged to meet measurable targets in key areas such as hospitalizations and antipsychotics usage. While significant improvements have been made, more must be done.

Gero Nurse Prep

Gero Nurse Prep is an online training course designed to prepare RNs who care for elders to attain board certification in Gerontological Nursing (RN-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This course equips RNs with a broad array of clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies that are tested on the ANCC certification exam and essential for quality gerontological nursing practice and leadership of elder care teams.

AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program

NMHCA also supports other national initiatives such as AHCA’s Quality Awards program.  The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program provides a pathway for providers of long-term and post-acute care services to journey towards performance excellence. The program is based on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. Member centers may apply for three progressive levels of awards: Bronze—Commitment to Quality, Silver—Achievement in Quality, or Gold—Excellence in Quality.  Each level has its own distinct rigors and requirements for quality and performance excellence.
