WHO WE ARE

We are a professional trade association of long-term care providers. Our members, who provide services to more than 7,400 New Mexicans, employ more than 7,400 long-term care professionals throughout the state.

NMHCA / NMCAL professional staff provides support services to New Mexico’s long-term care facilities. Educational programs are the mainstay of the Association, as are governmental relations, public affairs and networking opportunities that link NMHCA / NMCAL members to related organizations and agencies concerned with long-term care. All Association activities relate directly to the advancement of quality long-term care in New Mexico.

NMHCA / NMCAL’s facility membership includes single facility, multi-facility, for-profit and non-profit organizations statewide. Our associate membership includes individuals and business organizations that support quality long-term care and are dedicated to the profession’s success. The strength of our membership has established our place as one of the state’s leading trade associations.

  • Facilities for the Developmentally Disabled (In New Mexico these facilities are called Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICFs/IID).

Our professional staff and lobbyists ensure that our members’ interests are well represented to New Mexico lawmakers at both the state and federal level, as well as to government agencies involved in long-term care regulation.

Member-driven task forces and committees provide you with the opportunity to impact advancement in long-term care. Our members’ network promotes expertise through sharing activities, education and enrichment opportunities.

Through workshops, conferences, convention and webinars, we are able to provide you with the most up-to-date information to enhance your professional development. Our members receive substantial discounts for all products and services from the NMHCA / NMCAL and AHCA / NCAL.

We keep our members current on the latest in long-term care news through our member website, weekly Bulletin for Members, direct mailings and electronic alerts.

AHCA and NCAL Membership
NMHCA / NMCAL members are also members of the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living located in Washington D.C. AHCA / NCAL is the largest long-term care association in the nation. AHCA / NCAL represents the interests of long-term care providers at the federal level and is considered one of the strongest and most respected lobbying organizations in Washington, D.C

JOIN NMHCA / NMCAL

The New Mexico Health Care Association (NMHCA) and the New Mexico Center for Assisted Living (NMCAL) serve the long-term care profession as nonprofit trade associations. Our 138 member facilities span the continuum of long-term care, providing services to New Mexico’s frail and elderly living in nursing facilities, assisted living and independent senior living communities and Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICFs/IID). We are dedicated to enhancing long-term care in New Mexico by providing leadership, advocacy, information, and education to a broad range of providers, consumers, government agencies, and others in the long-term care community.

Facility Member
Any licensed nursing home, assisted living community, independent senior living community and Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID). Contact Tracy Alter, Senior Director of Member Services at 505-880-1088 about new member discounts that may apply.

Business Associate Member
Any business, firm, organization, corporation, or other group that provides services to the long-term care profession. Associate membership is also ideal for an organization with an interest in long-term care services—including long-term care facilities or programs in development.

Individual Associate Member
Any individual with an interest in long-term care. NMHCA / NMCAL also invites students who are currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning. This includes, but is not limited to, students working on a long-term care practicum or nursing degree with an emphasis in geriatrics. Student membership discounts are available. Individual members cannot be employed by a non-member facility. Individual membership in the association is terminated upon employment in a long-term care facility. You will receive benefits through any member facility and are not eligible for benefits if employed by a non-member.
